This is an easy, cost-effective solution to the 3rd Gen 4Runner rear shock mount problem! The upper factory inboard mount brackets are prone to rusting, and the mounting location is very difficult to access. The factory shock angle is also not ideal for performance and handling.
This weld-it-yourself Outboard Shock Mount Bracket kit fixes those problems! By moving the upper shock mounts to the outside of the frame (like all newer Toyotas), you will benefit from these improvements:
- Easy access for removal, maintenance and knob adjustments
- Improved handling, due to a new vertical shock position (vs stock diagonal)
- Increased valving efficiency, due to a more ideal 1:1 motion ratio*
- Better aesthetics, with a more visible shock body
These brackets are 3/16" bare steel and need to be welded to the outside of the frame rails. Compatible with factory shocks all the way up to larger 2.5" remote reservoir shocks. Should clear all tire sizes but please double check during install.

This is a Weld-It-Yourself kit. Each kit includes 4 pieces total (2 pieces per side, see last photo) that get welded together to create the 2 mounts. Those then get welded to the frame.
*Extended travel shocks recommended. The new vertical mounting position decreases the motion ratio of your shocks, which is better for performance and handling, but that also means you are getting less wheel travel than a diagonal-mounted shock will give. Extended travel shocks fix that.
